  1. About the Country Fair
    1. 2019 marks the 60th Annual South Arm United Church Country Fair! In 1959 the congregation of the Church was a mostly rural one. With many new subdivisions popping up nearby, and many new families and neighbours the Church decided to create a Fair for the growing community of newcomers. This became the perfect opportunity for neighbours to meet and have fun. Money was tight for many families so in addition to games and entertainment local produce and used items were sold at bargain prices. “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” 1950’s style!
    2. The “modern” fair features a cakewalk, quilting displays, a silent auction, entertainment stage, games for children, face painting and new this year “Balloon Creations”, the hayride and the bouncy bus ride. In addition there is fresh local produce and eggs for sale. A wonderful bake sale, homemade preserves (jams, jellies, pickles and relishes)books galore, adult clothing, children’s wear and toys, fresh flowers, jewelry, and a huge garage like sale with good quality useful items helps round out the offerings. (Linens, tools, small appliances, household goods etc.) If you get hungry you can choose from Strawberry Shortcake, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked potatoes and fresh cooked corn!
    3. Any profits from the fair help support the community outreach programs, activities and services of South Arm United Church.

    5. Volunteer Opportunities
      1. There are an abundance of volunteer opportunities, both for adults and for high school students looking for volunteer credits to count towards their Graduation.

                                                              i.      Student volunteers are given school credit for volunteering (the school is notified of the hours the student worked). They are also given a ticket for a free hot dog and drink. If a student volunteers the whole day they can change their area at the noon break.  They must report to Pat and let Pat know their new location.

                                                             ii.      At the end of the volunteering time the students must report back to Pat to sign out.

                                                            iv.      Adults can contact the church office 604 277 4020 and leave their contact information.

                                                            v.        Please include your full name, your phone number and/or e-mail and your school name.

                                                           vi.        Specify how long you want to work?  Which shifts? 9:00 to 12:30,    12:00 to 4:00   OR all day for 8 hours credit

                                                          vii.        Is there an area you would like to work in?    Books, Children's Wear and Toys, Junque (garage sale items), Adult Clothing, First Aid, Face Painting, Cake Walk, Quality Corner, Food Service, Children’s Midway Games, etc..

  1. Volunteer Dates/Times
    1. Monday September 16th

                                                               i.      4 pm – set –up tables in outdoor tents

                                                             ii.      After 6 pm – move boxes and items from gym to the tents

  1. Tuesday September 17th

                                                               i.      After 6pm – move boxes and items from gym to the tents

                                                             ii.      Assist where needed (pressure washing, mowing, handyones activities)

  1. Wednesday September 18th

                                                               i.      After 5:30 pm – set-up tables in gym, move books from stage to nw area of gym

                                                             ii.      Assist where needed.

  1. Friday September 20th

                                                               i.      All day/evening - Set-up of outside areas and parking

  1. Saturday September 21st

                                                               i.      9 am to 4pm - All day volunteers in different fair activities and booths. You can volunteer for multiple 2 hour time periods or for the whole day

                                                             ii.      After 3:30pm to 5:30pm – Help with emptying certain areas and setting up for Sunday services. Help with packing/boxing and moving boxes to staging areas.

  1. Sunday September 22nd

                                                               i.      8:30 am to noon – Help disassemble and store clothing racks. Clean up litter, prepare re-cycling, help load truck for item donation, take down and store tables, help set-up Preschool, and many other helpful activities!


  1. Donations.
    1. Donate clean items in good working condition for the sale. As always we endeavour to follow Government of Canada Garage sale regulations around used helmets, sporting goods etc. If a donated item doesn’t work for our purposes we try to reuse or recycle or donate elsewhere. We don’t take anything that cannot be moved by one person, and no furniture except by special arrangement.
    2. Morning Donations

                                                               i.      Will start Aug 6 - Sept 10 Tue to Thurs  (Between 10:00 am - 11:30 am) SEE Jacqueline in OFFICE!

                                                             ii.      Saturday morning donations will start Aug 10th and continue until  September 7th (between  10 am to 12 noon) – in the gym.

  1. Evening donations will be

                                                               i.      Aug 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 (Between 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm) – in the gym.

                                                             ii.      Sept 3, 9, and 10 (Between 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm) – in the gym.

Absolutely NO DONATIONS of used goods will be accepted after September 10!
